Résumé
This study focuses on the implementation of individual parenting workshops to improve parent(s)-child interactions (in particular serve and return interactions) and therefore the language skills of young children with language delay, using an Englishlanguage video tool that we have translated and whose interest we will try to show. Method: this is a case study involving two children (2 years 2 months and 2 years 3 months) and their mothers. We translated and adapted a video and a summary brochure and organized 8 sessions around the 5 steps of language stimulation presented in them. The sessions consisted of watching the video step by step and modeling with the parent and child so that the parent could take home what he had just learned. A parent questionnaire on parent(s)-child communication and the child's communicative portrait was completed with the parent before and after the intervention, and we also completed an observation grid during an interaction at the beginning and end of the program. The goal was to see if this parent coaching would have a positive impact on parent(s)-child interactions and on the child's language skills. Results: we obtained clear improvements in the parent(s)-child interactions as well as in the communication skills of both children. The parents showed more supportive behaviors and better receptivity and responsiveness. The children showed positive changes in their communication skills, expression and reception of language. Conclusion: this case study demonstrated the value of the parental support program created and the tools (video and brochure) adapted for early intervention in young children with language delay. It could be interesting to continue this work on a larger population of patients and to improve the evaluation tools in order to support the observed results.
