Résumé

Tandem breastfeeding Midwives Nutrition Allaitement maternel -- Chez la femme enceinte Grossesse Alimentation Vécu Allaitement naturel Breast feeding Pregnancy
Breastfeeding is known for its nutritional, immunological, and emotional benefits for the health of the breastfed child and the mother. During a new pregnancy, some mothers decide to continue breastfeeding. There are few studies providing reliable information on this subject. The aim of this study is to determine the experiences of midwives in supporting tandem breastfeeding, to inform research and better promote tandem breastfeeding. Methods: to find more about the care given to patients tandem breastfeeding, a qualitative study was carried in the Occitanie region, using seven semi-structured interviews with midwives specialising in breastfeeding support. Midwives with Lactation Consultant certification and/or a University Diploma in Human Lactation and Breastfeeding were interviewed between 26 October 2023 and 22 January 2024. Results: the data obtained from the interviews with the midwives were classified into seven themes: the socio-demographic characteristics of the midwives surveyed, the socio-demographic data of mothers who practice tandem breastfeeding, theory, experiences, resources, difficulties, and needs. Conclusions: despite the limitations of this study, the wealth of data collected reveals the significant knowledge and competences already acquired empirically by midwives. However, they do not have access to sufficient scientific resources. New studies would complement this work.
