Résumé

Décision médicale Aversion à l’ambiguïté Tolérance à l’incertitude Incertitude Médecine interne Théorie de la décision
Uncertainty is a complex, polysemous and deeply transdisciplinary notion. In this study, we propose a cross-sectional quantitative study compiling several tools for measuring uncertainty, in order to measure the impact of uncertainty on medical decisions. Using clinical vignettes, a psychometric test and an econometric test, we established a questionnaire administered to French internists. We were able to exploit 193 responses, 54% of whom were women, with an average experience of 11 years. Residents (36%) and MD (37%) made up the majority of the sample. A high proportion of burnout history was found (31%).Medical decision making was strongly associated with reaction to uncertainty, as was risk aversion to patient health. We did not find statistical relationships with the results of the econometric test to elicit ambiguity aversion. Gender and life and job satisfaction were control variables independently associated with the medical decision.
