Infertility affects one in five couples in France. It’s a problem that general practitioner often encounters and could be first contact. Objective: explore the approach to infertility in general practice consultation, the obstacles felt, and the solutions proposed to improve the approach and management of infertility in general practice. Method: qualitative survey with individual semi-directed interviews with 14 general practitioners in Occitanie, South of France. Results: patients ask their general practitioner about infertility. They support this reason (questioning, explorations, attending) but regret the absence of feedback from specialists. They play a role of prevention, support and screening. They offer solutions (inform patients, train doctors) to improve care. Conclusion: the general practitioner doesn’t spontaneously approach infertility for fear of intrusion into the privacy of his patients. The solicitation must come from the patient as an invitation to broach the subject. The challenge is to free the voice of patients. Training general practitioners and strengthening the alliance with specialists are ways to improve the management of infertility.
