Background: anxiety disorders are some of the most common diseases of psychiatric affections. According to the main recommandations, medications with benzodiazepine pills should only be used for severe and particular cases, regarding their side effects. However, benzodiazepines are still prescribed a lot. Outcome: understanding the non-pharmacological interventions of General Practitioners (GP) for the medical care of patients with anxiety disorders. Methods: a qualitative study. Phenomenologic interpretation. Results and conclusion: even if inherent to the practice of GPs, NMIs appear to always be less obvious to define than conventional cares. NMIs are more difficult to prescribe than medications in anxiety disorders because they require an investment of time, intellectual and often financial, as well as a living environment compatible with their implementation. Study participants illustrated the fact that a wide variety of NMIs were initiated by GPs for the management of anxiety disorders, despite the fact that their specificities generate difficulties in conducting quality studies on their effectiveness, or at least a lack of visibility, leading GPs to judge their effectiveness sometimes subjectively according to the patient's feelings. Finally, GPs sometimes feel powerless to set up NMIs in anxiety disorders, and often feel neglected by the public authorities regarding this problem.
