Résumé
Chlordecone is a pesticide which was used massively on banana plantations in the French West Indies between 1972 and 1993. This has left a substantial impact on the environment and the health of local populations. This thesis explores in depth the environmental and health consequences of the persistent contamination caused by chlordecone. It also focuses on the role of dispensing pharmacists in Guadeloupe and Martinique. As local health professionals with a constantly changing role, pharmacists are in the front line when it comes to informing, preventing, and supporting patients exposed to chlordecone. This thesis sets out concrete recommendations for reinforcing their initial and ongoing training and optimizing their role in monitoring and preventing chlordecone-related health risks.
