Résumé
Support for families with children having chronic diseases is not sufficiently developed. Then, the daily life of the family must be reorganized between the two places, hospital and home, not forgetting the impact on the siblings. The aim of this study was to examine nursing support for families of ill children and to look for ways to improve it. An academic research into the experience of family members has been conducted and four nurses experimented in pediatrics were interviewed in three different care units in Montpellier. Results showed that the nurses’ help was important and that many parents had a better understanding of their child’s illness and the siblings were not left behind, which would have happened with the constraints of care units. In conclusion, nurses are able to help parents maintain family dynamics in order to improve the care of a chronically ill child. It would be interesting to explore further how nurses manage to adopt a professional attitude towards parents.
