Nursing work requires constant emotional labour. Nurse’s emotions can influence the effectiveness of implementation and maintaining a trust-based relationship with patients and their relatives. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the nurse’s emotions influence their relationship with the patient’s family after death of the person being cared for. Four nurses were individually interviewed. Every interview was carried out from an interview guide, itself composed of six open questions. Among these four nurses, two working in emergency, one in a retirement home and one in palliative care. As far as the length of time of working, one ofthem is a recent graduate. The others graduated since at least five years ago. As predicted, nurses indicated ‘yes’ emotions influence the caregiver-family relationship. It would be interesting to explore how nurses combine professionalism and empathy with the patient and their family while an end-of-life announcement.
