Résumé
The care giving of stuttering is complex because the disorder itself is difficult to identify and fluctuating. By offering an approach coming from art therapy – meaning by integrating artistic mediations within speech therapy sessions – we can deal with stuttering in a different way. We wondered whether the contribution of artistic mediations within the speech therapy field had positive effects on language disorders as stuttering. Our thesis analyses the worth of one of these mediations, the painting medium, in a speech therapy session with school-aged 8 children who stutter. We offered workshops with this medium to children with stuttering in order to assess the effects on their language but also on their emotions, their breathing as well as their body tensions. The obtained results showed a decrease in the frequency and severity of stuttering as well as a decrease in anxiety, an increased body relaxation and more positive emotions. On the other hand, the small size of our sample does not allow us to generalize our results on a larger scale.
