Ultra-processed food is omnipresent in Western lifestyles. It leads to the consumption of numerous additives, including carboxymethylcellulose. This emulsifier has been shown to be harmful to both murine and human hosts. It alters the health of the host by degrading the mucus of the intestinal barrier and encouraging the encroachment of the intestinal microbiota. This promotes a state of inflammation. It is so widespread that it’s difficult to prevent its consumption. To prevent these effects, the bacteria strain Akkermansia muciniphila MucT ATCC BAA-385, appears to be an effective solution. By preventing the deterioration of intestinal mucus, the bacteria help to maintain intestinal homeostasis and counteracts the harmful effects of CMC. As Akkermansia muciniphila is one of today's new-generation probiotics, it is not yet widely available in pharmacies, and requires special precautions when using it. Over the next few years, its use may well become more widespread.
