Tribulus terrestris L. is an annual plant in the Zygophyllaceae family. Also known as "croix de Malte", due to the characteristic shape of his fruit, this plant is mostly found in hot and arid regions; in Europe, around the Mediterranean. In Ayurvedic and Chinese pharmacopoeia, it has been used for several hundred years for its anti-oxydant, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic properties, but it is best known for its aphrodisiac properties. All these properties are due to its chemical composition, rich in saponins, alkaloids and flavonoids. Although not listed in the French pharmacopoeia, Tribulus terrestris is used in numerous dietary supplements with claims such as improving libido, increasing muscle mass, promoting testosterone synthesis, or enhancing sexual and sporting performance. This thesis offers a review of this plant, from its botanical aspects to its pharmacological activities, highlighted through several studies. Particular attention will be paid to the role of the dispensing pharmacist in the use of Tribulus terrestris in the context of sexual dysfunction.
