Purpose: Although the role of the clinical pharmacist in the care service is well established, few literature on clinical pharmacy experiences with medical devices (MDs) is existing. The aim of this thesis was to assess the feasibility of implementing clinical pharmacy initiatives targeting MDs, and to evaluate their economic repercussions and ecological impact, mainly in technical care services such as operating rooms (OR).Methods: Feasibility was first assessed via two studies on the deployment of a pharmaceutical analysis activity for PICClines prescriptions. The first study examined the justification for the presence of a pharmacist in the OR, as well as MDs wastage. A second study aimed to assess the impact of the pharmacist's presence in the OR on non-conformities related to MDs use, as well as the economic repercussions. Finally, still in the OR, a study was carried out to assess the economic and ecological impact of implementing actions targeted on MDs.Results: Clinical pharmacy applied to MDs seems to be an activity that can be deployed routinely for common use devices, handled by many operators and with risk of complications, such as the PICClines. In the OR, the presence of a pharmacist would help reduce MD-related non-conformities, while generating savings. Multidisciplinary reflection on the eco-design of care reduces the ecological footprint of the surgical procedure, while also generating savings for the healthcare facility.Conclusion: Clinical pharmacy applied to MDs, like that applied to medications, seems to be a discipline that is still underdeveloped in France. A number of studies have demonstrated the feasibility of routine activities that contribute to enhancing the safety of patient care, while also generating savings. At a time when it is becoming necessary to reduce the environmental footprint of healthcare, the clinical pharmacist also has a role to play. Further studies are needed to assess the reproducibility of the data and their transferability to other organizations.
