An analysis of the processes of text reading and writing is at the origin of this careful study of GP’s lipogrammatic novel La DisparitionOften considered as a pointless feat – a novel without the letter E, the most commonly used vowel of the alphabet in French − La Disparition has repeatedly been dismissed by reviewers and academia.Yet the many sophisticated textual mechanisms such as multi-layered reading, self-representation, introducing quotations, and so on and so forth, point to a remarkable achievement.Through the wealth of approaches it offers, La Disparition is undeniably a major landmark in contemporary literature.
