Résumé
Ageing populations bring with them a host of chronic degenerative pathologies known as “age-related”. The stakes for the community are high. Ageing better” (healthy ageing) will be - if it isn't already - a major concern for our societies. The questions raised are numerous, and one in particular deserves our attention: why is age such an important factor in the incidence of these pathologies? The answer may lie in the concept of cellular senescence. Over the past decade, a number of teams have demonstrated, using original transgenic mouse models, a link between the accumulation of senescent cells in tissues and age-related degenerative pathologies. The idea of specifically eliminating these cells followed, paving the way for what may very soon constitute a new class of treatments in the therapeutic arsenal of physicians - senotherapies. I propose here to present the syndrome of cellular senescence and its implications in pathologies, with a particular focus on osteoarticular diseases. We will conclude with an update on the development of these new treatments and the promise they hold.
