Sub-Saharan Africa has been undergoing accelerated urbanization since the 1950s. However, this trend is generally accompanied by a difficult economic context, which raises serious issues of urban management and planning. Such an urbanization context is not without consequences for the well-being of urban populations and the quality of their living environment. Using malaria as a health indicator and Bouaké, a medium-sized city, as a spatial framework, our study aims, from a geographical angle, to provide insights into the relationship between the urbanization process and malaria transmission on the one hand, and the local combinations of determinants of exposure to malaria vector bites and malaria-related morbidity on the other. After analyzing the urbanization process in the city of Bouaké, four neighborhoods (Air France, Belleville, Koko and Sossoribougou) were chosen to illustrate the diversity of Bouaké's urban fabric. Surveys carried out in these neighborhoods revealed intra- and inter-neighborhood socio-demographic and environmental inequalities associated with inequalities in exposure to malaria vector bites and malaria morbidity.
