Tryptophan Degradation via the Kynurenine Pathway. The diagram shows the conversion of tryptophan through the kynurenine pathway. Tryptophan is converted to formylkynurenine by TDO, then to kynurenine by KFase. Kynurenine is metabolized to either kynurenic acid via KAT or to 3-hydroxykynurenine by KMO. 3-Hydroxykynurenine is further converted to xanthurenic acid by HKT or to ommochrome by PHS.
