Five Arabica coffee varieties (Hibrido de Timor, Pretoria, Rume Sudan, K7 and Catimor) with known resistance to Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) and one susceptible variety (SL 28) were subjected to microsattelite (Single Sequence Repeat-SSR) analysis using 7 primers. Four primers detected polymorphism between resistant and susceptible parents. The four primers were used to analyse a segregating population of F2 plants derived from a cross between Rume Sudan x SL 28 to identify markers that co-segregate with resistance/susceptibility. A significant finding of this study was revealed by primer M24 which indicated that one of the resistance genes carried by Rume Sudan is closely linked to a 180 bp-size fragment, which can be used as a marker for resistance. This paper discusses the development of marker-assisted selection (MAS) for resistance to CBD. (Résumé d'auteur)
