Résumé
In many regions of the Maghreb, the rapid evolution of agricultural production systems, particularly based on the unsustainable use of limited water resources, raises the question of the sustainability of these systems. Numerous approaches for assessing farm sustainability have been developed, mainly in developed countries. However, these approaches are poorly adapted to the specificities of farms in southern countries, especially in the most vulnerable rural areas of Tunisia, due to the lack of reliable farm data. Moreover, if the actors of the territory and development are not involved in the construction of the evaluation method, it will be little or not used for decision support in terms of agricultural policy and natural resource management. This communication presents an original approach for the co-construction of a tool for assessing farm sustainability, based on a series of semi-directive interviews and participatory workshops with farmers, researchers and representatives of the administration at national and regional level. It was implemented in a vulnerable area within the Merguellil basin in central Tunisia.
