Résumé
Digitalization is considered as a source of future competitiveness thanks to its potential for creating and developing new value-creation and revenue-generation opportunities. Thanks to digitalization, firms implement digital technologies to optimize existing business processes and enhance strategies efficacy. Digital technologies have also a powerful democratizing effect because they lower the barriers to market access and permit to a great number and a various set of people to involve in international market exchange. However, current knowledge about how digital technologies can foster SME’s entrepreneurial internationalization is lacking. This paper addresses that knowledge gap by theoretically discussing the association between the three used types of digitalization – digital artifacts, digital platforms, and digital infrastructure – and SMEs’ internationalization. In particular, we enrich the digitalization-internationalization nexus with the concept of adding value proposition and investigate its mediating effects on this relationship.
