The exhaustive excavation of Monument 1 of the Bennasriya 2 complex (a circular structure 14 m in diameter) reveals a stratified architectural organization centered around an oval burial pit (1.60 m deep). This organization involves three major successive phases/structures related to the burial deposit. These are:- The progressive sealing of the pit,- A triple facing of dry stone (70 cm high),- A paved belt of marly limestone (dune sandstone slabs at the SE-SW/SE-NE junctions),- A peripheral paving of pebbles with a variable configuration (triple to single level), reinforced to the west by large blocks (likely serving an anti-erosion function). The pit features a unique functional bench on its northern wall, potentially facilitating the handling of the deposits.This burial structure comprises a two-phase sequence:- Phase 1: Concurrent deposition of cranial remains (western sector) and ashes (eastern sector), sealed by 30 cm of backfill.- Phase 2: Deposition of calcined bone fragments, sealed by five layers of slabs and 30 cm of rubble.This operational sequence reflects a complex secondary processing of the remains, suggesting ritualized reuse (cremation origin? single individual?).The absence of datable artifacts and the originality of the features (oval pit, bench, western reinforcement) preclude a firm chronological attribution, but regional parallels point towards a protohistoric or ancient context (Libyco-Berber influences?). The study documents adaptive technical know-how (erosion management, facing) andan unknown ritual complexity, highlighting the need for absolute dating to contextualize this North African heritage.
