Abstract
Archaeological and palaeoenvironmental data obtained during rescue work, prior to the construction of the A75 motorway between Pézenas and Béziers, have been assembled in an attempt to piece together the history of the landscape and rural economy, in the Languedoc region. During Antiquity, data obtained, point to the existence of a system of small to medium rural domains dedicated to the production of food crops (viticulture, arboriculture, and cereals) and underline the interaction between man and natural resources.
