Dynamics of mismatches during annealing of approximants is topologically constrained. There are several ''annealing channels'' which lead to inflated approximants in different coherent orientations, or to the perfect quasicrystal. The annealing time scales like the fourth power of the ratio of the grain size to the period of the annealed approximant.
