This paper presents a flexible UHF RFID tag made of copper printed on kapton polyimide substrate. This tag is double-layered with the radiation plane printed on one kapton substrate and the ground plane printed on the other kapton substrate. It has a compact size of volume 50 × 20 × 0.2 mm3whose flexibility makes it easier to label complex surfaces. The proposed tag is designed for applications in the medical field, notably for the identification of blood bags and Intra-Veinous (IV) solutions. It helps prevent misidentification of samples based on their characteristics. It adapts very well to the Monza R6 chip (Zc=13−j125Ω) at 868 MHz when applied to a blood bag as well as an IV solution bag. Simulation results show good performance in terms of adaptation and reading range. The tag is fabricated and measurements are done on a foam surface, because surfaces used in simulations, we are not available in the laboratory. Measurements and simulations results on foam are consistent, so it's highly likely that the same results will be obtained with blood and IV solution bags. The maximum reading range is 2 m at 868 MHz.
