In recent years, a new generation of multimedia knowledge-based systems has emerged. In agronomy, it is the fields of plant production, pathology and entomology that have been the first to take advantage of this high-performance communication technique. In this article, we present the D-CAS software, one of the first achievements in these fields in France. Specialised in sugarcane pathology, this software offers a diagnostic system that goes beyond decision support: economic importance, prophylaxis, recommendations on treatments to be used.We describe the system through examples of consultation and we specify the necessary configuration for its acquisition
