Résumé

environmental legislation; consumer behavior change; responsible consumption; corporate social responsibility; legislation disclosure
Despite the availability of sustainable products, French consumers’ attitude behavior gap in responsible consumption is still very wide. Firms don’t take responsibility about environmental issues as they should and French consumers’ actions are not in line with their attitudes. As an authority and responsible entity, legislator is guiding both firms and consumers towards responsible production and consumption through different rules and regulations in France. This paper explores about environmental regulations, its different types, influence in France and proposes a possible solution that could narrow consumer attitude behavior gap. Through literature review, we identify that the disclosure of legislation in the communication message may positively influence the perception of a sustainable product by reducing consumer skepticism as well as diffusion of responsibility, leading to positive attitude and intention to buy a sustainable product.
