Abstract
L-Theanine is a secondary metabolite from tea plants; it has received much attention due to its pleiotropic physiological and pharmacological activities [1]. L theanine exhibits neuroprotective effects on cognitive dysfunction under ischemic conditions, likely via the modulation of several neurotransmitter receptors including GABA and glutamate. In addition, L-theanine is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. This property was fundamental in the strategy to find new therapeutic agents and for their administration.
