Abstract
Wood is a heterogeneous and variable material. At a cellular level, it displays a complex, spatially oriented organization that depends on various factors. The basic pattern of a species is imposed by its genetic origin and known as the 'wood plan.' The tree's growth conditions subsequently lead to variations in the number or size of cells and the formation, or lack thereof, of particular tissues such as reaction wood. Anatomy atlases enable appreciation of this diversity through cytological sections. Yet, apart from anatomists equipped with microscopes, who else has observed these cellular organizations? Nevertheless, many high school teachers, university educators, or those in woodworking schools wish to showcase these fascinating structures to their students or the general public during communication initiatives. The objective of this project, led by the Wood Sciences Research Group, is to provide everyone with a simple means to create anatomically accurate replicas of various softwoods, temperate hardwoods, or tropical woods.
