This chapter explains that internode growth includes primary and secondary phases, with the latter being determined by the presence of functional leaves. The model adopts Pressler’s law and the common pool concept to compute the biomass allocation for ring formation. It employs the concept of physiological age to effectively manage the plants’ sub-structures. Despite the architectural complexity and sampling challenges of trees, the ‘crown analysis’ provides functional parameters to reconstruct the potential structure, focusing on the organic series of the living axes. This chapter focuses on the method of parameter estimation in the GreenLab model.
