Abstract

In nature, biological pore proteins represent excellent examples of structure-directed transport function. Their active pores rely on various combinations of the welldened spatial distribution of molecular functional groups, to generate highly selective pore-type devices, controlling ionic diffusion along polar transduction pathways (Agre 2004, MacKinnon 2004).
