Résumé
This chapter highlights the richness of the literature from recent decades. Synthesizing existing data and reinterpreting them in light of modern concepts has made it possible to create new synthesis documents to discuss the tectono-sedimentary evolution of this foreland basin during the Pyrenean orogeny and to understand its fate during the post-orogenic episode. The chapter summarizes the major stages of tectonic evolution of the Aquitaine Basin. The period from the Priabonian to the Pliocene is detailed extensively in this chapter. The chapter also focuses on the analysis of structures located between the Toulouse fault and the present Atlantic coast. Foreland basins are flexural depocenters that develop under the effect of orogenic loading on the lithosphere. During the Paleocene , the Aquitaine Basin corresponded to a deep sedimentation domain located at the front of the Pyrenees. The Tertiary sedimentary infill of the Aquitaine Basin has been the subject of numerous biostratigraphic studies over several decades
