Disclosing one's HIV status is a critical issue for young people living with HIV (YLHIV) who have had the infectionsince childhood, as they are more vulnerable psychosocially (experiencing self-stigma and isolation), are economicallydependent, and have limited influence over decision-making compared to adults. Revealing their status can leadto discrimination and rejection by those around them. Conversely, sharing it with trusted individuals can enhanceself-esteem, improve adherence to antiretroviral therapy, and enable greater social and financial support. Senegal isexperiencing a low-prevalence HIV epidemic that remains concentrated among key populations, and discriminationagainst people living with HIV remains highly pronounced.
