Résumé
This chapter proposes to explore the notions of sobriety for cities from the perspective of sustainability and that of smart cities. In the literature of management science, the concept of the smart city mainly refers to ways in which digital technologies might improve the functioning of cities, their efficiency, their competitiveness and provide new ways to resolve several dysfunctions. Many academic works emphasize that technological progress, and especially digital progress, is a source of many advantages for sustainable development. To better protect the environment, it is now necessary to link the approaches of sobriety and digital progress. Smart city project managers should anticipate the evolution of society's concerns by adopting a more global vision of the city's smart innovations and by involving citizens more in the development process of sober cities. Sobriety would involve considering the psychological mechanisms underlying individual behavior in the processes of designing connected devices and encouraging users.
