In the past 30 years, much theoretical and empirical work has been devoted to exploring the relationship between intraspecific interactions and dispersal. As a consequence, kin competition, inbreeding, and demography have been shown to be major factors in the evolution of dispersal (see Gandon and Michalakis, chapter 11; Ronce et al., chapter 24; Perrin and Goudet, chapter 9).
