Natural rubber, India rubber and caoutchouc are all names for the solid elastic material isolated, one way or another, from the ‘milk’ or latex of Hevea brasiliensis, and various other tropical plants like Castilloa elastica. Natural rubber and natural rubber products have been known to the ancient cultures of Amazonia and Mesoamerica since time immemorial.
