Modified oligodeoxyribonucleotides have been extensively studied for a few years as potential antisense compounds.1,2 However, only a few modified oligoribonucleotides have been described. One of the reasons for this situation may be related to the fact that RNA synthesis is more sophisticated than that of DNA , due to the presence of the 2′-OH function, which necessitates the use of an added protection that is compatible with all the other protective groups.
