Abstract
Since 2021, a Collaborative Research Project has been implemented to document the dynamics of human occupation in the gorges of the Cèze and the plateau of Méjannes-le-Clap (Gard), between the end of the Neolithic and the beginning of the Bronze Age. Various studies have been undertaken on the archaeological collections in order to define with precision the nature and the chronology of the occupation(s) for each of the sites in the area. The first observations from ceramological analyses confirm an almost continuous occupation of the cavities present in the Cèze gorges, from the end of the Neolithic period to the Early Bronze Age. Finally, the first results from studies on human remains allow us to put forward the hypothesis of a recurring funerary practice in the cavities of the Cèze gorges: the primary deposition of a small number of individuals in caves without covering up the bodies with soil.
