Abstract
On November 26 and 27, 2021, the History Committee of the Ministry of Culture and that of the Council of State and Administrative Jurisdiction organized, in partnership with the Comédie-Française and the Institute of Social Sciences of Politics, a symposium dedicated to “the invention of the cultural public service” and the “role of the Council of State”, both as a judge and as an advisor to the government. The objective of this conference was to study the genesis of the notion of cultural public service, its legal forms and its dynamism, but also to question the plasticity, throughout history, of such a notion. Finally, it examined the missions of the cultural public service, its management and legal translation, through the prism of contemporary issues, from cultural rights to the adequacy of 21st century artistic projects.Beyond communications, round tables and exchanges, this book also brings together an important corpus of documentary resources and a selection of archives illustrating some major stops of the cultural public service.
