Abstract
Louise MICHEL was neither a defendant nor a prisoner like the others, but she knew how to make use of the trial form and continued this experience of subversion throughout her captivity in the penal colony of New Caledonia. If there is anything to be said for the procedure that condemned her, it is that it did not prevent her from continuing her political activities, despite the deportation order.
