Résumé
This chapter reviews the methods of intraoperative testing and monitoring (IOM) can help in surgery for cerebral tumors— namely, their contribution regarding both functional and oncological results. The future developments of the methods and their fundamental applications are discussed in this chapter. The chapter explains that extensive surgical removal of cerebral tumors, when possible, currently appears to be the first treatment to influence the natural history of this disease. The goal of this chapter is to study the organization of the cortical eloquent areas for each patient, then to tailor the resection according to both the oncological and functional boundaries. The chapter discusses that despite the development of functional neuroimaging, but due to its current limitations, the additional use of invasive electrophysiological investigations has been advocated for the surgery of tumors located near or within, eloquent structures.
