Abstract
Charcoal analysis of Roman and medieval samples from Western area excavation of Lunel-Viel village by Claude Raynaud offers the first step to write the history of Languedoc landscape. They particularly uplight the social-environnement dynamics of deciduous and sempervirent oak trees. An alteration of theses forest are perceptible during Antiquity but also during medieval timesas soon as the Xth and XIth centuries.The persistance of mesophilic taxa at low altitude up to the Middle Ages is also observed : this result is discussed and hypothesis are advanced. The history of Aleppo pine is also better understood.
