Managing acute abdominal pain is a great challenge for the emergency physician. The diagnostic approach for acute abdominal pain is one of the most difficult for a physician. This is primarily due to the large extent of the clinical manifestations for abdominal pain, as well as to the subjectivity of the patient’s feelings when it comes to clearly expressing the symptoms. Accurate measurement of the prevalence of the origin of acute abdominal pain is difficult. The cause of these pains is indeed wide-ranging, including very different clinical situations, extending from a viral gastroenteritis to abdominal aneurysm complications, through nonspecific abdominal pain.
