Abstract
A new comprehensive economical survey of equipment for water and environment based on tools used in sociology and economics is presented. The first third chapters deal with the main following points: raising the costs of drinking water and related problems ; focus on the various economic tools that could be foreseen for water management (drinking and irrigation) and the estimation of multiple costs for renewing the water networks, specially in urban areas. The two following chapters aim at defining and assessing the irrigation water cost and the equipment reliability. Chapters six, seven, eight and nine are concerned with the economical estimation of the environmental cost of a public equipment - applied to municipal solid waste collection facilities - taking into account parameters such as the management of conflicts, scales of organization and financing modernization. A more complicated example of agricultural runoff pollution generating a decrease in water quality is dealt with in chapter ten. Really inciting water pollution control mechanisms are presented from both the theoretical and practical viewpoints. This study accesible to anyone is aimed at all those directly or indirectly involved in management of equipment for water and environment : political decision-makers, technicians, government and local community engineers and all those involved in engineering and design departments as well as in reseach and development institutes.
