Abstract
More than ever Mediterranean worlds are facing the interaction between archaic cultures and globalization. In today's literary creation, the strong presence of archaic myths and regional languages reveals a Mediterranean that is deeply connected to the knowledge of its own cultural origins, without being attached to a bygone past. From regional cultures, Italian contemporary writers draw the energy they need to open themselves up to the world on a planetary scale: they are the antibodies facing globalization that progressively tends to erase the differences. This volume invites us to reflect on the Mediterranean worlds of today, despite the deep rifts between the Northern and Southern regions: from Napoli to Sicily, from Sardinia to Tunisia, the authors affirm the necessity of building new forms of individual and collective narratives in order to root ourselves in a common project considering the vital role of the ecological crisis and social justice. However, new narratives would not be disconnected from old cultural patterns related to a place, a native culture and a living ecosystem: in re-storying Mediterranean worlds, the authors are engaged onto a path starting from Italian culture and leading to global citizenship. Now more than ever, we know that we are all interwoven within a web of entangled destinies; therefore, we need a situated knowledge, harmonizing global and local dimensions, considering the individual within the ecosystem he lives in. This new narrative will give a sense to our being on Earth from the wider perspective of a global ethics.
